Our Dream Entertainment Center

My wife and I moved into our new house in the beginning of 2023. From the beginning we wanted to have a dedicated entertainment center. So let’s get started on it. It all began with a rendering that I whipped up in Fusion 360. I knew we were going to want floating shelves with LEDs, a walnut mantle, shiplap, and custom cabinets.

Getting started with the “Bump Out” was the easiest part of this entire project. Using simple 2x4 studs and shiplap, I was able to get the entire thing buttoned up in one day. The only thing I would change is how much I over engineered the process of recessing the TV mount, it was definitely overkill, but at least I do not have to worry about it going anywhere.

One the “Bump Out” was done being constructed we added in the beautiful electric fireplace from TouchStone Products, mounted the TV, and temporarily mounted the sound bar. So far this project is coming out amazing, but we still have a long way to go.

Next up was building this beautiful mantle from walnut. This part of the project terrified me since I have never done miter folds before hand. Surprisingly it came out amazing, the miters were not perfect all the way around, but I learned a few tricks on how to close them up and make it look amazing. (Check out the video for these tips.)

As of right now, this is where I stand with the project. I got the custom cabinets and tops made, which will be featured in the next video. They are outfitted with soft close doors and custom hard maple tops. I will update this post once I get the rest of the project done!
